This work, dated according to the newspaper from or soon after 15th December 2018, extends our understanding of the length and breadth of the Daily Telegraph series. We previously believed that the series ended in 2017. This work relates to a very dark time for Rae, as his second wife Pauline, was seriously ill with cancer at this time. There are believed to be over 1000 biro drawings in this series alone.
Cat Scratching – pen on paper. 30 x 21 cms. All drawings from £350 – £1250. Ronald Rae is not often lighthearted in his drawings. These animal line drawings are an exception.
Sheep No 2 Indian Ink, charcoal and chalk on paper. 69 x 96cms. All drawings from £350 – £1250. Ronald Rae made a series of Sheep drawings – very few are left.
Pen on newspaper – Nov. 2015. Elephants have featured many times in Ronald Rae’s work – he has carved eight elephant sculptures and made many drawings. The title relates to the state of the world – how everything is leading to extinction – already happening to animals. It will happen to us too. We don’t seem to be able to stop it…
