Ronald Rae’s fifteen tonne granite sculpture Tyger Tyger moved from The Falkirk Wheel to its new home in Somerset on May 15th. The site for the sculpture required 400 metres of tracking across a field to reach the site. This short video shows the expertise of many people to make this happen. Please excuse the sound production at the beginning of this video – the wind was howling with intermittent sleet showers!
The BBC also filmed the Tyger Tyger being moved to Somerset as part of their series called The Crane Gang. It was broadcast on BBC2 on 29th September 2013 at 8pm. You can now see it on YouTube.

Interesting that Tyger Tyger should now be on a ley line – presumably the same line as going through Glastonbury and heading north of London – and closer to Blake. Children generally seem to love the poem and also relate to Ronnie’s work. Interesting too to reinforce the current plight of the tiger as a seriously endangered species.

Thank you for your thought-provoking response re. the ley line! The ley line in this instance is connecting the Tyger Tyger with a dovecote in Bruton. You can see it on the video. I will check out the map for the other connections that you suggested. Re. the plight of the tiger and children loving Tyger Tyger, on the day we put in the sculpture we had a space when waiting for another lorry so we took the sculpture on the original lorry to the school of one of our client’s children for his class to see. The children ran down the lawn when it arrived up the drive all so excited. At the time they were doing a project on tigers and had pictures of tigers including Ronnie’s Tyger Tyger on the wall. Ronnie spoke to them and answered their questions. I wasn’t allowed to film this event as the parents’ consent would have been needed and this just happened on the spur of the moment. However you will be able to imagine what a lovely moment it was. Our client is going to invite the class and their parents this summer for a Tiger Tea and donations will go to Save the Tigers. Tyger Tyger was always one of my favourites of Ronnie’s so I’m very happy to see it go to a beautiful site, even if that means I may never see it again! Gx

I am so glad that Tyger Tyger has at last got a new home, even though it has meant leaving Scotland. It is only when you view the video that you truly appreciate the scale of the task in transporting it.
Let us all breathe a sigh of relief and hope that creator and created are finally happy.

Thank you Ian. That’s another of our bairns placed. It proved to be a struggle getting Tyger Tyger into this difficult site but with help from many hands it was achieved. The sculpture is now settled in and everyone is very happy about it.
